THE COST OF ENTRY IS A HEARTBEAT

2020

Performance, 4DSOUND, vibrotactile transducers

“The Cost of Entry is a Heartbeat” is a performance installation created in Residency at the Spatial Sound Insitute in Budapest. It invites people to take part in a ritual of collective rest. Drawing on sounds recorded in thermal baths around Budapest and the contribution of heartbeats from people attending the piece, Salima Punjani has created a space that invites rest and collective healing through the interconnectedness of our heartbeats. It is an experience that bridges the individual and public ritual of bathing, reminding us how being in a relationship contributes to well-being.

Its second iteration includes binaural excerpts from the Vancouver edition of the performance held in November 2021 at Lobe Studio.
